Yarmouth Regatta

Yarmouth is a small village on the north coast of the Isle of Wight with a large sailing fraternity. Each Summer it hosts a week-end regatta. Numerous old gaff rigged boats sail out into the Solent, and to me they have a certain old fashioned charm about them.

The Solent in the 30's

The Solent is a stretch of water off southern England between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It is a mecca for sailing craft of all types, and there are
numerous boat builders and yacht clubs that surround the Solent. One of my
favourite periods was in the 1930's, when most of the sailing boats were gaff rigged.

Return of the fishing boats

Poole is a busy fishing port on the Dorset coast of southern England, and most days fishing vessels of all kinds can be seen leaving and entering the harbour.

Kimmeridge, Dorset

Kimmeridge is a small fishing village on the Dorset coast in southern England, and some beautiful sunsets can be seen across the harbour in the summer.

Onshore winds

The sea holds a special fascination for me. Whilst serving in the Royal Navy I would spend hours on the upper deck studying the play of light on the sea and also trying to capture the images of the foam patterns in my memory. From the shore I would study the waves breaking over rock formations.
